Traditional felt roofing is applied with hot bitumen and has a lifespan of around 15 years. It is the most cost-effective flat roof solution in the short to medium term. However, if you are looking for a flat roof that will last as long as many pitched roofs, 50 to 60 years or so, then rubber or fibreglass is the answer. Both have a lifespan of at least 50 years as both are highly water resistant materials and, unlike traditional felt, have no seals that expand or contract in hot and cold weather that eventually fail.
